Printing Your Planner

When it comes to printing your planner, you have the final say on what’s what. However, there are a few things to consider.

The first thing to think about is the end-user of the planner. If you want the planner to be carried around day-to-day in a handbag, then we would suggest you go for an A5 size to keep it lightweight and not too bulky. If the planner is intended to be left on a desk or bedside and referred to then you can go for an A4 size. Also bear in mind the cost, the bigger the planner the more expensive it will be to produce.

We would always recommend that you go for a wire binding when printing a planner, this means the finished product lays flat which makes it easier to write in and is sturdy enough to be opened time and time again. If you want to make your planner extra special then you can opt to have a matching metallic foil on the front cover.

Choosing whether to have the internal pages of your planner printed in black and white or full colour really depends on what you intend the planner to be used for and where you are pitching it in the market. A planner that is full colour throughout can be pricey but if you are going for a high-end product then there is a margin to be made. If you want to add a splash of colour or have sections to your planner then tabs are a great addition.

Planners are made to be written on and filled in and this means the paper you choose is important. You want the paper to be thick enough so you don't see the writing on the other side. You also need to go for something that doesn’t have a glossy coating so the ink doesn’t smudge. We would recommend going for a 120gsm uncoated stock.

Not every planner is the same, if you need more advice on your options then our expert account managers can assist you on info@bookprintinguk.com or 01733 898102.

Designing Your Planner

Your planners need to look good, be user-friendly and represent your company. With this in mind, the design is crucial. We have a planner design specialist in-house, she loves to create custom planners and she’s pretty good at it too! Please get in touch for more information.

If you have a team of designers already, or are designing your planner yourself then you can download a pre-formatted template to get stated.

As mentioned before, our designers can perform a free file assessment on your files to ensure they are print ready and you’re not in for any nasty surprises when you open your custom printed planners.

Other Things You Need To Consider When Printing Your Planner

VAT

Planners unlike most other books are subject to VAT. As planners are generally incomplete and require the end-user to fill them in then they are classed as stationery items. For more information on VAT please see the guidance from HMRC

Storage and Shipping (Fulfilment)

Here at Book Printing UK we offer a fulfilment service which means you do not have to worry about where to store your planners or who is going to send them out to your customers.

Reorders

When you first print your planners the artwork needs to be set up for print, you will check your proof and make any changes. Once this is done your print files are ready to go the next time you order. This means we are able to offer a reduced price for reorders of your planners. As long as there are no changes to the artwork you can use your online account to order as little as one copy at your reduced reorder price.

Our Recommendations

Planners are made to be filled in by the end-user and because of this they really need to lay flat, which is why we would always recommend going for a wire binding.

The paper used for the insides needs to be thick enough so that any handwriting does not show through the pages. We suggest going for the 120gsm uncoated paper.

If you want to make your planner stand out and feel like a luxury item then select the board cover with foil detail.
