Below is some basic information for setting up a Word document for an A5 book before PDFing:
We print all of our books digitally, so our A5 sized books are actually a couple of millimetres smaller than A5. We do this because it works out much more cost effective and we pass this saving on to our customers. For the measurements and margins you will need to open Word and follow these steps:
You are now ready to type in your text. Please remember to add any extras that you require, such as a title page, page numbers and contents / index pages.

As with the A5 books, our A4 books are finished slightly smaller than A4. For the measurements and margins you will need to open Word and follow these steps:

We can design your cover for you for using our Advanced Design Service, or you can design your cover yourself. When designing your cover please design the front, spine and back of your cover as one image.
The total cover size needs to be 202mm high. The width is 286mm plus the width of your spine. For spine sizes please refer to the table at the bottom of this page. Please also remember to add an additional 5mm bleed on all four edges of the cover design.
For example: 180 page book cover: Before bleed: Height: 202mm, Width 286mm (+10mm for spine) = 296mm. With bleed: Height 212mm, Width 306mm.
The total cover size needs to be 287mm high. The width is 410mm + the width of your spine. For spine sizes please refer to the table at the bottom of this page. Again, please remember to add a 5mm bleed on all four edges of the cover design.
For example: 180 page book cover: Before bleed: Height 287mm, Width 410mm (+ 10mm for spine) = 420mm. With bleed: Height 297mm, Width 430mm.

For A5 wire bound books please create an A5 PDF from your artwork file. If there are any text or images that runs to the edge of the page you will need to add a 5mm bleed to the top, bottom and ouside edge (not spine edge) of each page. Similarly, for an A4 wire bound book please supply an A4 PDF, adding a 5mm bleed if the text or images run to the edge of the page.
For wire bound books we require two documents, one for the front cover and one for the back, set out at either A5 or A4 size. In addition to this, please add a 5mm bleed to all 4 edges of the covers.

Please create your artwork to the size you would like the finished item to be printed to, but including a 5mm bleed on all four edges of the artwork. Supply as a 1 up PDF.
