Help with laying out your book contents:
Our preferred format for receiving artwork files is in PDF format, but we can also work from other programs including Microsoft Word and In-Design. If you have any questions about your artwork please feel free to email or call us on 01733 898102. If you need advice on setting up your document in Word the following information will be of help.

Book Insides:
Our 2 most cost effective book sizes are 200mm x 143mm (slightly smaller than A5) and 287mm x 205mm (slightly smaller than A4). These are the simple settings for setting your book out with the correct sized margins, although you can use your own if you prefer...

Sending images:
Colour images for insides and covers must be a minimum of 300dpi. Black and White / Grayscale images must be a minimum of 400dpi.

A5 Books:
We print all of our books digitally, so our A5 sized books are actually a couple of millimetres smaller than A5. We do this because it works out much more cost effective and we pass this saving on to our customers. For the measurements and margins you will need to open Word and follow these steps:

Click FILE
Click PAGE SET UP
Click PAPER tab
Set paper to A5 (148w x 210h)
Click MARGIN tab
Set TOP, BOTTOM, LEFT and RIGHT margin at 2cm
Leave GUTTER at zero and GUTTER POSITION at left
In the MULTIPLE PAGE section choose MIRROR
MARGINS
Click LAYOUT tab
Set HEADER and FOOTER at 1.27cm

 A4 Books:
As with the A5 books, our A4 books are finished slightly smaller than A4. For the measurements and margins you will need to open Word and follow these steps:

Click FILE
Click PAGE SET UP
Click PAPER tab
Set paper to A4 (200w x 280h)
Click MARGIN tab
Set TOP, BOTTOM, LEFT and RIGHT margin at
2cm
Leave GUTTER at zero and GUTTER POSITION at left
In the MULTIPLE PAGE section choose MIRROR
MARGINS
Click LAYOUT tab
Set HEADER and FOOTER at 1.27cm

You are now ready to type in your text. Please
remember to add any extras that you require, such as a title page, page numbers and contents / index pages.

Sending Artwork:
You can either email your artwork or send it in on disk or CD. For larger files you can upload direct to our FTP Site. Please email us at info@bookprintinguk.com for a Link to the FTP Site.

Cover Design Layout:
We can design your cover for you for £100 (reduced if you are able to supply a photo or illustration), or you can design your cover yourself. If you are designing your cover you may find the following information helpful. Our preferred file type is PDF. When designing your cover please design the front, spine and back of your cover as one image.

A5 Cover Design: The total cover size needs to be 200mm high. The width is 286mm plus the width of your spine. For spine sizes please refer to the table at the bottom of this page. Please also remember to add an additional 5mm bleed on all four edges of the cover design.
Example: 180 page book cover: Before bleed: Height: 200mm, Width 286mm (+10mm for spine) = 296mm. With bleed: Height 210mm, Width 306mm.

A4 Cover Design: The total cover size needs to be 280mm high. The width is 400mm + the width of your spine. For spine sizes please refer to the table at the bottom of this page. Again, please remember to add a 5mm bleed on all four edges of the cover design.

Example: 180 page book cover: Before bleed: Height 280mm, Width 400mm (+ 10mm for spine) = 410mm. With bleed: Height 290mm, Width 420mm.
