Coil Binding, also referred to as Spiral Binding, is a popular method of binding for books that are opened and closed regularly. Recipe Books, Annual Reports, Training Manuals, Reference Books and Diaries for example.
The advantage of coil binding is that you can open a book 360 degrees and lay it flat on a surface to read and refer to. When producing a coil bound book the inside book pages are sandwiched between 2 sheets of card (a front and back cover). Holes are then punched in to the spine edge of the book, before finally, a plastic coil is threaded and twisted through the holes to form the binding.
What size should my Coil Bound Book be?
The most popular sizes for Coil Bound books are A6, A5 and A4. We can also supply other custom sizes, but you will need to call us before submitting your book for printing to check that we can finish to your required size.
Full colour or black and white printing?
We can supply Coil Bound books with either black and white or colour insides and the covers are printed in colour as standard. These can be either gloss laminated or matt coated.
How many pages can I have?
Coil bound books can have any number of pages up to a maximum of 250. There is no minimum page count.
Please take in to account that the holes that the coil threads in to will encroach in to your page by 8mm, so any text should be kept a minimum of 10mm away from the bind edge of the book. This applies to the front cover, inside pages and back cover.
We prefer to receive artwork as individual pages within a document, rather than double page spreads. For design and layout advice, please call us on 01733 898102.
If you would like us to design your Coil Bound Book please call us on 01733 898102 and we will arrange for one of our senior designers to do this for you.
